Greener Kinross-shire We are a group of local volunteers who share a love for the beautiful Kinross-shire area and are committed to making it even better for people and nature. We are a community-led organisation promoting sustainability and helping Kinross-shire build resilience to climate change through meaningful local action. We lead and support a wide range of local sustainability and climate action projects, including:
Climate Café – What is a repair café?
It is a free community event, where people bring everyday items to get them repaired under supervision of expert repairers. The idea is that participants will learn repair skills by taking part in or watching a repair process. Also, the repairs that we will facilitate are not complex – the repair café will not take business away from local professional repairers. By facilitating repairs like sewing a button on or fixing a bike puncture we will help the professionals to concentrate on more complex repairs. What to expect on arrival? Each participant will register the item(s) to be repaired and sign a waiver form. The item will then get assessed by the repair volunteer whether it is repairable. Not every item can be repaired due to design restrictions or the complexity of some jobs. Although we will try our best it is important to be prepared that we might not be able to help. The services will be provided on a first come first served basis, so if it is busy you might need to wait. If you bring more than one item and we are busy, we will only service one item at a time. Hence you will need to wait for the repair of the second item. But to keep you entertained we will provide refreshments and a swap shop. If you would like to use the latter, please bring a good quality, clean item to exchange for something in the shop. If you don’t have anything to donate, you can still use a swap shop and leave a donation instead.
Repair Café – Bring broken items, learn how to fix them, and reduce waste.
