River Survey on North Quiech- Training with Buglife Scotland

Come and join our Guardians of Loch Leven for a morning of Citizen Science training.

What to expect

You will take part in a field training Guardians of Our Rivers programme that will prepare you as a qualified Volunteer to take part in the upcoming monthly river surveys. The training is Facilitated by Caroline Howarth, Conservation Officer at Buglife Scotland.

As part of the training you will observe Caroline taking a “kick sampling” in the river followed by survey tasks on the river bank. You will not be required to enter the water, but there will be an opportunity to participate in kick sampling at the end of the training.

Training site and meeting point.

The training will take place on North Quiech by the Railway Track near Burleigh Castle.

Parking & Meet point: We will meet at Auld Mart Road (by the park and Arlary Path) at 9.45 am. Please come a few minutes earlier if you need to change your footware.
There is space for a few cars to park on the road by the small park, which is a quiet part of the estate. Please lift share if possible to minimise number of cars.
If you live nearby, please consider walking to the site.

What to bring

All the equipment will be provided by Buglife Scotland. As it is an outdoor training, please bring appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear (walking boots, wellies or waders). We also recommend that you bring a drink and snack/lunch as refreshments will not be provided.

 

Bad weather

We’ll keep an eye on the weather and assess the day before if conditions remain suitable. If there is wet weather in the run up, we will advise on the website if the event is cancelled/postponed.
